O'Neill Modernmedia (OMM), which specialises in digital photography,
new media, design and large-format printing, is celebrating
its 20th anniversary by placing the latest UK order for an
Inca flat-bed ink-jet printer. The Slough-based company has
purchased the largest flat-bed printer in the Inca range,
a 3.2 x 1.6m Columbia. The machine was commissioned in September.

"We invested in ink-jet output devices four years ago, but
the new Inca Columbia will allow us to provide a completely new
range of services," says marketing director Howard Campion.
"With its ability to print high-quality colour directly on
to a wide variety of substrates we will be able to turn work around
in a much shorter time and very cost effectively.

"For example, with the Sericol Uvijet inks used in the Columbia,
we can print edge-to-edge on materials as diverse as plywood, corrugated
board or outdoor display (foamex) material, and when printing is
complete the job is ready for the customer."

O'Neill boasts some major household names amongst its client base,
including Coca Cola, Toyota, LG Electronics, NEC and Kenwood. The
company is also the UK's leading supplier of revolving perimeter
advertising systems at sports grounds, providing 35 percent of Premier
League clubs with moving media, as well as Cricket and Rugby stadiums
in both the UK and Australia.

"We expect the Columbia to take us into new markets, for instance
the construction industry and retail point-of-purchase, plus areas
such as exhibition panels and backlit material for lightboxes. The
Inca printer is a tremendously flexible and productive machine and
we were extremely impressed by the demonstrations we saw at Cambridge
and the new Sericol demonstration suite in Broadstairs."

The Columbia is able to print on substrates up to 40mm thick. There
is a variable resolution up to 800 x 1,200 dpi and a top speed of
120 square m/ hour. The Columbia uses piezo drop-on-demand ink-jet
technology and Sericol's patented UV curable Uvijet inks, which
enables the press to print on to a wide variety of materials, including
metals and plastics. Substrates with uneven surfaces can also be
printed on successfully. The Inca range of Eagle and Columbia flat-bed
printers is distributed world-wide by Sericol.
