August 14, 2008 – Continuing to redefine high-speed inkjet printing, Inca has introduced an innovative bi-directional printing technique that has increased the production speed of its revolutionary Onset flatbed UV inkjet printer by up to 25% higher than it previous unprecedented levels.

Using the new bi-directional print mode, the automated Onset achieves production throughput of 6,458 ft 2 /hour. The entire production cycle of loading/unloading and printing a full-size graphic is completed in an astonishing 28 seconds. In terms of print speed, the Onset with the new bi-directional mode prints at a speed of 10, 764 ft 2 /hour . In real-time terms, this means that the Onset prints a full-size (126” x 60”) image in under 17 seconds! The new throughput rate enables the Onset to produce an impressive 125 plus full-bed sheets every hour. Utilizing the vacuum bed in a multiple-up type configuration, results in the Onset producing 375 (40” x 60”) posters in a single hour – stacked and ready to ship to the customer.

Inca developed the ground-breaking Onset print technique by utilizing 576 print heads on a carriage that spans the entire width of the print bed. The result is that the entire image is printed without the need for traditional scanning of the print head. In addition, Inca has developed proprietary heads back and forth printing has traditionally proved difficult for many inkjet printer manufacturers to achieve. “The width of the print carriage combined with our proprietary electronic and software allow the Onset to accurately control drop size and release according to the direction of print to deliver bidirectional speeds with exceptional print quality. There is no compromise of print quality with the bidirectional mode,” explains Steve Tunnicliffe-Wilson, Director of New Product Development.

Inca’s new Bi-directional printing feature is already being fully utilised on customer installed Onsets and is now available as standard on new Onset machines.
